Solution Focused Therapy
SFT is a short-term and well-researched therapeutic approach that is future-focused, goal-directed, and focuses on solutions, rather than on the problems that bring people to therapy. Using this therapy, the therapist and client develop clear, concise, and realistic goal(s). Each person that comes to therapy has some knowledge of what would make their life better, even though they may need some help to reconnect them to the coping skills and resources that they already possess. Every person has experienced and problem-solved through at least one adverse situation before. SFT taps into this resilience and potential and connects you with the resources and skills that you have already developed from previous solutions and problem-solving. The therapist also uses various techniques to help the client achieve their goals for a better future, such as discussing exceptions to the problem or asking people to describe the ideal future and what one small step the person can take to begin working on their goals. The therapist provides compliments to the client regarding what they are doing well and invites people to do more of what is helping them. Therapists also provides feedback about what clients may consider changing.
